Congratulations to Bank of Botetourt on breaking ground at their new Vinton Branch! We are excited to see the establishment of yet another location and look forward to working with G&H Contracting on this project. The new branch is next to the Vinton Library on South Pollard Street.
Hughes Associates is providing architectural and civil engineering services for this project.
The Hughes Associates team had a blast this week volunteering at Friendship House. Together, the team packed 130 boxes of food for families during Thanksgiving, 30 bags of food for walk-in individuals, and raised $1,850 which will assist an additional 37 families!
Friendship House provides after school and seasonal programs for over 30 elementary students, a food pantry that serves over 100 households per week, refugee housing via the Refugee Resettlement Program, and much more.

Hughes Associates is excited to announce that our Design-Build Team with Avis Construction has been awarded the William Byrd High School Renovation project with Roanoke County Schools. This project will include roughly 100,000 square feet of renovations and 35,000 square feet of additions. Renovations will include a new entrance lobby, guidance suite, media center, art room, choir room, weight room, wrestling/cheer space, teacher workrooms, Family and Consumer Science rooms (FACS), and mixed-use science labs/classrooms. Additions will include a two-story building with an open entranceway, lobby, media center, and workrooms.
Our team also includes Ascent Engineering, who will provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services. Construction is anticipated to start April or May 2021.
Hughes Associates A&E is excited to welcome April B. Young to our firm.
April B. Young comes to Hughes from Jacksonville, Florida with her sunshine personality in tow. She brings a new level of Interior Design expertise to the firm having worked in a wide range of building types including Corporate Interiors, Retail Design & Construction, Workplace Design, Healthcare, Senior Living, Higher Education, Community Buildings, and Historic Preservation. With this knowledge she will lead the charge for our Interiors Department. While she misses the sunny beaches of Florida, she is thoroughly enjoying exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains with her husband and children.
Construction is moving right along for Bank of Botetourt’s new branch in Cave Spring. Currently, the Cave Spring branch is located in Springwood Park next door to its new location. However, the new branch will bring more exposure to traffic traveling along Electric Road and include a drive-through remote teller station.
The new branch is scheduled to be open by the end of May 2019.
